Sakin Begmatov - Work at the Frunzensky Hemp and Jute Factory

Sakin Begmatova - work at the Frunze hemp-jute factory

In 1943, she joined the ranks of the VKP(b). She was appointed deputy director of the Frunze hemp-jute factory, which had been evacuated from Odessa.

This was a time of transitioning the factory to military production. The issues of receiving and accommodating evacuees in private apartments, recruiting, training, and educating personnel, as well as all social and domestic problems, fell on the fragile shoulders of Sakin Begmatova. There were no dormitories, kindergartens, or transportation. Working conditions were harsh. The factory operated day and night. The noise of machines, the rumble of presses, the specific smell and dust, and the fine fibers of hemp, kenaf, and cannabis spread for several blocks. Fires were not uncommon. There was a shortage of workers. Sakin Begmatovna traveled around the republic to recruit people. The training of former housewives and clerks was conducted by masters and specialists evacuated from Odessa.

At the factory, as at all industrial enterprises, extended working hours and mandatory overtime of up to 3 hours a day were introduced. Labor vacations were canceled for the duration of the war. Students from vocational schools, teenagers, studied and worked for 12 hours a day.

In a short time, the hemp-jute factory was put into operation. By the end of the war, it was already among the major enterprises of the republic. Today, it is the Bishkek kenaf spinning and weaving factory.

The enterprise expanded, new buildings were constructed, kindergartens and dormitories were opened, and a pioneer camp was established. Soon, the factory became famous for its two-story club, where movies were shown, dance evenings were held, and all holidays were celebrated.

A significant event during those years was the elections to local and Supreme Councils of Workers' Deputies. An agitation point and polling station operated in the club. On election day, the buffet opened in the morning. They brought berry juice in bottles, beer in barrels, grilled shashlik, and most importantly - there was music, dancing, and free movie screenings.

Sakin Begmatovna often participated in children's events. The children loved her very much, and as she gazed into the joyful faces of the little ones, she told them how they would study in vocational schools, technical schools, and universities, live in beautiful, well-equipped houses, and most importantly - we won this war.

By proving herself to be a good organizer, a sensitive, responsive, and caring leader at a large enterprise, she earned the respect, love, and trust of the team.
