Source Arkarsur

Source Arkarsur is the most frequently visited outlet of carbonated waters by wild animals. Not to mention that the marked feature is clearly expressed in the name of the spring (arkar — a direct reference to argali, while "shur" can be easily recognized as a somewhat distorted Turkic "shor" — salt).

The site of the Arkarsur spring is located 70 km east of the city of Uzgen, on the southwestern slope of the Fergana Range in the basin of the right tributary of the river Yassy — the river Chitty, 4.5 km upstream along the valley of the stream Arkarsur from the point where it flows into the river Chitty, at absolute elevations just over 2800 m. From the road along the valley of the river Yassy, a well-trodden path goes up the river Chitty, one of the branches approaches Arkarsur. A shorter path to this area comes from the Kara-Shoro carbonated mineral water deposit, but it is laid through the challenging Agatan Pass and does not save time.

In total, 6 carbonated springs have been registered at the carbonated mineral water outlet of Arkarsur, but only one outlet has gained fame for the group — at the foot of the right slope of the valley from dark gray aleurolites of the Tuyuk coal-bearing thickness of Lower Jurassic age. The water has a mineralization of 13.6 g/L, a sodium chloride composition, is pleasant to taste, and is quite warm for these places (just over 13°C). This is type XXV according to GOST 13 273—73, Mirgorod type, but with significantly higher mineralization than in Mirgorod. The carbon dioxide content in the water reaches full saturation and amounts to 2.2 g/L; a feature of the composition is the high content of dissolved iron (about 10 mg/L), zinc (over 0.5 mg/L), and barium (a few mg/L).

The biological effects of Arkarsur water, besides its ability to quench thirst, manifest in a pronounced stomach-laxative effect.

The flow rates of individual carbonated springs at the Arkarsur site range from 0.02 to 0.1 L/s, which is relatively small for carbonated mineral waters in Kyrgyzstan; difficulties in accessing the source also limit its usability and worsen the prospects for economic development. Its location in an attractive mountainous area, proximity to a large group of fresh iron-rich springs, and the original taste that compels one to take yet another sip of warm pleasant water have created considerable popularity for the source, presumably not only among "our lesser brothers" — it is rare for a tourist or shepherd venturing into the valley of the river Chitty not to stop by Arkarsur.
