Currently, there are 28 known deposits and occurrences of carbonated waters in Kyrgyzstan, containing free carbon dioxide in amounts of 500 mg/l or more. Most of them are located in the Fergana Range: in the basin of the Yassy River — areas of Arkarshur, Baibiche, Jol-Chavay, Kara-Shoro, Kacharalatour, Konurtebe, Kokdjar, Kolubek, Tuyde, Chitty, Chon-Chavay; in the basin of the Tar River — areas of Kulun, Suek, Terek, Tuz-Ashu; in the basin of the Arpa River — Karakol (eastern) and Kyzyl-Beles; in the basin of the Karakuldja River — Karakol (western), Karakuldja, Sauktur, Surtrash, Shilbeli; 4 groups of springs are located in the Aksai Valley and its mountainous surroundings — Beshbelchir-Arashan, Kolsu, Uselek, and Chatyr-Kul. One group of carbonated springs is found in the Moldatau Mountains (Kara-Kiche) and on the northern slope of the Kyrgyz Range (Ak-Suu).
At four sites — Ak-Suu, Beshbelchir-Arashan, Kara-Shoro, and Chatyr-Kul — wells have been drilled and exploratory work has been conducted, yielding positive results, which allows us to speak of deposits of carbonated mineral waters (CMW).
In addition to the mentioned sites and deposits of CMW, the republic has a fairly numerous group of underground water outflows with increased (tens and hundreds of mg/l) carbon dioxide content, which are quite similar to conditioned CMW, but are still not considered "true" carbonated waters. These are interesting natural objects, some of which may eventually be classified as deposits of carbonated waters after more in-depth study.
