The tunnel will be located at an altitude of 2200 meters above sea level
On December 2, 2025, an agreement was signed regarding the construction of a new alternative tunnel "Kelechek" on the Bishkek–Osh highway, which will be located in the area of the Too-Ashuu pass. This information was provided by the Ministry of Transport of Kyrgyzstan.
The length of the new tunnel will be 11.5 kilometers, and the construction will be carried out under the public-private partnership mechanism. The project also includes two toll collection points, two mini-hydroelectric power stations, and a modern management system.
The construction period will be approximately five years, and the total investment amount is estimated at 640 million dollars. The main investor will be a private company, although its name and partnership details have not yet been disclosed.
It is worth noting that currently, the Kolbaev Tunnel operates on the Bishkek–Osh highway, which is located at an altitude of 3200 meters. The new tunnel will be a thousand meters lower and will reduce the distance on the route by approximately 40 kilometers.
