"Cash Only". Markets and stores in Kyrgyzstan have started refusing electronic wallets
Vendors fear hefty fines from the tax service
In Kyrgyzstan, there is a growing reluctance among vendors to accept payments through electronic wallets, according to reports from users on social media.
Instead of familiar services like O!Money, MegaPay, and "ELCOM," most merchants now prefer cash transactions. The main reason for this is the fear of significant fines that may be imposed by the State Tax Inspection officers.
According to entrepreneurs, starting in 2026, the use of electronic wallets registered to individuals or their relatives will be strictly prohibited. Violations are subject to fines of 20,000 soms for individual entrepreneurs and 65,000 soms for legal entities. Tax authorities have already begun conducting raids to identify violators.
