Phytosanitary control conducted on October 27, 2025, revealed the presence of the parasitic plant during a visual inspection of the cargo. This quarantine status was confirmed through a herbological examination carried out by the Omsk branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Center for the Agro-Industrial Complex".
The owner of the batch was provided with an official document requiring the necessary measures to be taken. In accordance with the owner's decision and the phytosanitary regulations of the Russian Federation, the strawberries were burned to prevent the spread of dodder — a dangerous parasite capable of reducing yields and causing the death of agricultural crops.
Since the beginning of 2025, there have been 115 cases of quarantine organisms detected in imported plant products in the Omsk region.
Dodder (Cuscuta sp.) is an annual parasite that lacks leaves, wrapping around stems and extracting sap from host plants. It poses a serious threat to agricultural crops in Russia.
“This is not the first case with berries from Kyrgyzstan: earlier in the Kirov region, imports increased eightfold, but without violations,” the statement notes.
