Kamchybek Tashiev, the president of the Kyrgyz Football Union, held a meeting with representatives of the clubs participating in the Kyrgyz Premier League. According to the KFU, the meeting was attended by leaders of the KFU, KPL, and players from football teams, including "Dordoi," "Alga," "Ilbirs," "Bishkek City," "Asiagol," "Kyrgyzaltyn," "Abdysh-Ata," "Talant," "Neftchi," "Muras United," "Özgön," "Alai," "OshMU," "Bars," "Toktogul," and "Asia."

It is important to note that ahead of the new football season, the number of teams in the Kyrgyz Premier League has increased. In 2025, 14 clubs participated in the main tournament; however, with the qualification of the "Toktogul" club for the league and the joining of the "Asia" club from Talas, the total number of participants has risen to 16. The initiative to create the "Asia" club was supported by Omurbek Babakov.
During the meeting, reports on the results of the 2025 season prepared by the KFU were presented, as well as information on the development of football infrastructure. Additionally, the KPL announced its plans for the upcoming 2026 sports season.
During the meeting, it was announced that the championships would be renamed: the Premier League will now be called the Higher League, and the National League will be called the First League. It was also decided that in the next season, the team that finishes first in the First League will gain direct access to the Higher League, while the last team finishing in 16th place will be relegated to the First League. This innovation was also a topic of discussion at today's event.
