Lidia Moravska, a professor and air quality expert from Australia, has been awarded the Prime Minister's Prize for Science for 2025.
According to media reports, her research has significantly influenced the change in perspective of international medical organizations regarding the transmission methods of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Initially, it was believed that COVID-19 was transmitted through large droplets and contact-airborne routes. However, Moravska demonstrated that the primary mode of transmission is through fine aerosols present in the air.
"Scientific knowledge without a specific goal is not enough," Moravska noted. "My aim is to improve health and enhance the well-being of society."
The Australian Minister for Science emphasized that Moravska's work "has redefined the understanding of air quality and infection transmission on a global scale."
This award includes a monetary prize of 250,000 Australian dollars.
