Israel eliminated the chief of staff of Hezbollah in Beirut
The airstrike was directed against a high-ranking member of Hezbollah, as stated by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), emphasizing that the goal of the operation was to weaken the capabilities of the terrorist organization and prevent threats to Israel. "We struck the highest-ranking commander of the terrorist organization 'Hezbollah' to prevent it from strengthening its forces," the IDF said in a message on Telegram.
In addition, the army's statement noted that Ali Tabatabai led most of Hezbollah's units and actively worked to enhance their combat readiness against Israel.
The Hezbollah group confirmed Tabatabai's death, describing him as a "great commander of the jihadists," according to information from Reuters.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, five people were killed and 28 were injured as a result of the strike.
