100 Rafale aircraft: Zelensky and Macron signed an agreement to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities

The presidents of the two countries signed a declaration of intent regarding the procurement of military equipment for Ukraine.

Zelensky called this agreement "historic," emphasizing that it is aimed at "significantly strengthening our combat aviation, air defense systems, and other defensive capabilities."

According to information provided by Reuters, this agreement is set for 10 years and includes the supply of multi-role Rafale combat aircraft from the French aerospace company Dassault Aviation.

According to Reuters, some of the aircraft may be supplied from existing stocks in France, while the majority will be manufactured under long-term contracts. This agreement is part of Kyiv's strategy to increase its fleet to 250 combat aircraft, including American F-16s and Swedish Gripens.

Additionally, the agency reports that there are plans to conclude contracts for the supply of SAMP/T air defense systems, but it is unclear whether they will be supplied from stocks or through long-term orders.

Reuters sources noted that the sources of funding for these deals have not yet been determined. The agency points to political and budgetary instability in France, which may affect the volume of assistance provided.

In an interview with French television after the signing of the agreement, Zelensky confirmed Kyiv's intention to acquire 100 Rafale aircraft.

The SAMP/T Mamba system was developed by the Eurosam consortium and is a mobile surface-to-air missile defense system capable of simultaneously engaging up to ten targets. It is the only European system capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.

The Rafale fighter is a multi-role fourth-generation aircraft developed by Dassault Aviation in the 1980s. It was adopted by the French Navy and Air Force in 2004 and 2006, respectively. The Rafale features a twin-engine configuration and exists in 11 different variants, including single-seat and twin-seat options.
