On December 25, 2025, Vera Alentova, the People's Artist of Russia, passed away. This was reported by the Moscow Drama Theater named after Pushkin, where she worked for more than six decades.
Vera Alentova was a distinguished actress of theater and cinema, a teacher, and a People's Artist, known to a wide audience for her role as Ekaterina Tikhomirova in the famous film "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears," directed by Vladimir Menshov, which won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
Alentova appeared not only in this iconic film but also in a number of other movies, including:
• the drama "Time of Desires" (1984)
• the film "Tomorrow Was War" (1987);
• the comedy "The Groom from Miami" (1994);
• the film "Shirley-Myrli" (1995), in which she played several roles.
Alentova's husband was director Vladimir Menshov, and her daughter is actress and TV presenter Yulia Menshova.
