In 2025, Mongolia exported 83.9 million tons of coal

The statement from the General Department of Customs and Taxation notes that this result exceeds the figures for the same period last year by 5.6 percent.

The economy of Mongolia is significantly dependent on the mining sector and the export of mineral resources. From January to December 2025, mining products, including coal, copper, and iron ore, accounted for 99.2 percent of the country's total exports.

The majority of coal mining in Mongolia is carried out at the Tavan Tolgoi deposit — one of the largest undeveloped deposits of coking and thermal coal in the world, located in the southern aimag of Ömnögovi. The estimated reserves of this deposit are 6.5 billion tons, of which a quarter consists of high-quality coking coal.
