In Uzbekistan, a demographic decline is recorded alongside a simultaneous increase in marriages with foreigners

According to data for 2025, Uzbekistan is experiencing a trend of declining birth rates and a decrease in the number of marriages; however, the number of unions with citizens of other countries is steadily increasing, as reported by podrobno.uz.

Marriages

In the first half of 2021, there were 0.3 thousand marriages registered with foreign citizens. In 2022, this figure increased to 1.9 thousand, and in 2023, it amounted to 1.8 thousand. By 2025, the number of such marriages reached 3.4 thousand.

At the same time, the number of marriages between citizens of Uzbekistan is declining. In 2025, 267.1 thousand marriages were registered, which is 1.7% less compared to 2024 (271.8 thousand), marking the lowest figure in the last 15 years.

Marriages contracted after the age of 30 are also becoming less common: in 2025, 39.9 thousand were registered, which is 6.8% less than the previous year. The largest number of marriages—227.3 thousand—were contracted by young people under 30 years old.

Birth Rate

In 2025, 884.5 thousand children were born in Uzbekistan, which is 5.3% less than in 2024 (926.4 thousand). A decline in birth rates is observed in almost all regions of the country.

The highest number of newborns was registered in Samarkand region—105.8 thousand, in Kashkadarya region—99.0 thousand, and in Fergana region—98.0 thousand.

The lowest birth rates were noted in Navoi region—24.1 thousand, Jizzakh region—36.7 thousand, and Karakalpakstan—38.6 thousand. In Tashkent, 71.4 thousand children were born, and in Tashkent region—63.5 thousand, both figures lower than the previous year.

It is noteworthy that the share of late parenthood is increasing: in 2025, 6.1 thousand women became mothers after the age of 40. Among men, about 600 became fathers after the age of 60, including the oldest father, who is 81 years old.

Furthermore, the number of cases of twins being born is increasing: in 2024, there were 21.1 thousand such cases registered, and in 2025—21.8 thousand.
