The incident occurred in waters located 800 kilometers from Iran.
The Pentagon confirmed that an Iranian drone was shot down in the Arabian Sea.
The event took place when a U.S. Navy F-35C fighter intercepted a Shahed-139 drone that posed a threat to the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, which was in international waters.
Captain Tim Hawkins, a representative of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), stated that the drone exhibited aggressive behavior, ignoring attempts at de-escalation by American forces.
The military department noted that the decision to neutralize the drone was made in accordance with the right to self-defense, to protect both personnel and the ship itself. The Pentagon emphasized that the actions of the U.S. military fully comply with international standards.
