Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur noted that countries providing flags for the vessels of the "shadow fleet" should be prepared for potential retaliatory measures. He added that specific actions require further discussion, as some states are concerned about the possible escalation of the conflict.
As Bloomberg emphasizes, the "shadow fleet" includes approximately 1,500 vessels engaged in transporting Russian oil while circumventing existing sanctions. These ships are often registered under the flags of other states to legitimize their activities.
Many of these vessels have already been included in the sanctions lists of the European Union and the United States. Some of them are being detained, including with the involvement of American military forces.
