The incident took place on February 23 during a match of the Istanbul First Amateur League between the teams "Mevlanakapy Güzelhisar" and "Istanbul Yurdum Spor." In the 22nd minute, the goalkeeper of "Istanbul Yurdum Spor," Muhammet Uyanik, kicked the ball out of his penalty area, which, to his horror, hit a passing seagull.

The goalkeeper recalls: "I didn't immediately understand what had happened. As I got closer, I saw that it was a seagull. I was in shock because it was a living creature."

The team captain, Gani Chatan, immediately rushed to help and tried to perform CPR on the bird. He noticed that the seagull was lying on its back and wasn't breathing.

The footballer said: "That was the first thing that came to my mind. Soon its little legs and eyes started moving, it came to a bit, and we gave it some water. I have never taken a first aid course."

The resuscitation efforts lasted about two minutes, after which the bird was handed over to the medical staff. At the moment, the seagull is alive, but it cannot fly yet and is undergoing treatment.

Despite the fact that the match ended in a loss for "Istanbul Yurdum Spor," and the team lost its chances for the championship, the players noted that saving the bird's life turned out to be more important than the game's result.
