At a ceremonial event dedicated to International Women's Day, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, announced a significant increase in the quota for state grants for education for girls from low-income families. It will now amount to 4,000 places.
Additionally, the government will cover the tuition fees for master's programs for female students enrolled in joint educational programs with universities that are listed among the top 300 universities in the world.
As part of support for women's entrepreneurship, startup competitions will be organized in at least ten areas, where the winners will be able to receive grants of up to 500 million sums from the Innovation Fund.
It is also worth noting that education for girls who have completed the 11th grade and enrolled in state technical schools will be fully funded through grants.
According to the president, there are currently over 904,000 girls studying in higher educational institutions in Uzbekistan, which constitutes 54 percent of the total number of students. Among doctoral candidates and research interns, women make up about 61 percent, which corresponds to approximately 8,500 individuals.
Furthermore, Mirziyoyev noted that last year, 60 girls from the country were able to enroll in prestigious universities abroad.
In conclusion of his speech, he highlighted the participants of the event who have achieved success in international scientific Olympiads and paid special attention to Dilafruz Jurabaeva — the winner of international startup competitions and the ambassador of Microsoft in Uzbekistan.
