In response to the changes in propane prices in the domestic market, committee officials noted that according to exchange reports, the price of liquefied gas as of January 8 this year was 9.27 million sums ($766) per ton, which is almost a 30% increase over the past month.

Last year, 358 thousand tons of liquefied gas were sold through the exchange, of which 61% was local production and 39% was imported. However, since August 2022, the share of Uzbek propane has begun to decline: in December it did not exceed 35%, and by early 2026 it fell to 10%. The main reason for this is that gas produced in the country is primarily used for the needs of the population and social facilities, officials emphasized.

Last year, the starting price of Uzbek propane did not exceed 7 million sums ($578) per ton, while imported gas cost about 8 million ($661). This price was achieved due to established restrictions, according to which the price should not exceed 20% of the starting price of the lot, and the purchase limit for one trading session was reduced from 10 tons to 5 tons.

However, in recent months, the average price on the exchange has increased due to the growing share of imported gas and rising demand in the domestic market, which has led to the price of propane now exceeding 9 million sums ($744) per ton.

In response to this situation, the competition development committee initiated a series of measures to stabilize prices, including regular monitoring of prices at gas stations. Currently, 11% of vehicles in Uzbekistan use liquefied gas, and up to 5% of the total volume of propane sales goes to the needs of owners of such vehicles.

Additionally, the antimonopoly agency urged bloggers and activists not to spread information about price increases on social media to avoid further price hikes for gas in the domestic market.

The committee also promised to provide more detailed information about measures aimed at stabilizing prices for liquefied gas on the exchange in the future.

Amid changes on the exchange, reports indicate an increase in propane prices at gas stations: at the beginning of the year, the price per liter rose from 6200 sums ($0.51) to 7000 sums ($0.58).
