UzHydromet has presented preliminary data on the weather in April and an overview of climatic conditions in this month over the years.
According to meteorologists, this year's April will begin with typical spring changeable weather.
In the first decade of the month, short-term rains with thunderstorms are expected, which will be local in nature and will not occur everywhere. In the second and third weeks of April, rain is forecasted for 1−3 days.
The air temperature in April will vary at a high level: at night it will range from +7…+12 to +12…+17 degrees, while during the day it will be from +15…+20 to +27…+32.
Weather characteristics in April
April in Uzbekistan is considered one of the rainiest months of the year. Rains, often accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, occur quite frequently. In the northern part, the extreme south, and in desert areas, rain falls on average for 5 to 8 days a month, while in mountainous regions this number increases to 9−13 days.
Forecasters note that rains in April are extremely unevenly distributed.
“There have been years when April was exceptionally dry, with precipitation not exceeding 5−30% of the norm over most of the territory. For example, in April 1975, it rained only twice in Tashkent, and the total precipitation was just 2 mm (3% of the norm). At the same time, there have been Aprils when in some regions the amount of precipitation exceeded the norm by 3−5 times,” the report states.
April 1990 became the rainiest in the history of meteorological observations in Tashkent, with precipitation amounting to about 300% of the monthly norm, and the number of rainy days reached 19 (with a norm of 13).
Every 6−8 years, in some areas of the country, rain transitions to snow are recorded. The last such case occurred in April 2020, when snow fell even in central and southern regions in the middle of the first decade of the month (April 8). On April 9, the snow cover in some places reached 7−20 cm.
The latest recorded date of snowfall was April 30, 1989, which is the only case in the history of observations.
In April, active melting of snow continues in mountainous areas, and by the end of the month, snow remains only in high-altitude zones.
