Information about the tragedy appeared on social media when a relative of the deceased reported that his wife had been swept out to sea. Their daughter survived.

“During the incident, they were carried out to sea, and all personal belongings, including documents and mobile phones, were lost. They are currently in the morgue, and we have no way to assist them. We are far away and do not know anyone in Malta, so we are reaching out to Kyrgyz and Kazakhs nearby. Please, if anyone can support our daughter, contact the police, ambulance, or embassy, respond. Any help is very important right now,” the message states.

The information about the incident was confirmed by the Times Of Malta newspaper. According to reports, on January 11, a 48-year-old citizen of Kyrgyzstan drowned in St George's Bay.

A 23-year-old woman, also a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, was with her and was hospitalized.

The police reported that information about the incident was received around 12:40. Initial reports indicate that several passersby helped the two women out of the water and offered their assistance.

Medical personnel and civil protection officers arrived at the scene to help transport the victims to Mater Dei Hospital.

“Unfortunately, it was later established that the 48-year-old woman had passed away, while the condition of the second victim is assessed as stable,” the police reported.

An investigation is currently underway.
