At a meeting of the permanent commission of the Bishkek City Council on housing and communal services, transport, and ecology, the head of the municipal enterprise "Tazalyk," Zholdoshbek Chushtukov, reported that all of his employees are insured, and not just with one, but with two insurance policies.
He clarified that one of the insurance policies is mandatory and is paid for by the enterprise for each employee. However, it does not cover payments for workplace injuries, only providing support in the case of disability or death. At the same time, there is also voluntary insurance that covers workplace injuries.
Dina Bektumuratova, the chair of the commission, noted that the working conditions of "Tazalyk" employees are deteriorating due to street lighting outages that are being carried out to save electricity.
"It was recently reported that one of your employees died as a result of being hit by a car. Will she receive financial support?" she asked.
"Yes, assistance will be provided. The independent trade union has already made payments. We are waiting for the death certificate and other documents, after which we will provide all compensations according to the law. Also, two insurance companies will pay the amounts specified in the contract," Chushtukov replied.
The chair of the commission also inquired whether the deceased had a flashlight with her.
"We reviewed the video. She had a flashing beacon, and her special clothing reflected light well, making her visible. She was not sweeping; she was about to cross the road where there was a pedestrian crosswalk. She took a few steps and was hit by a car," the head of the municipal enterprise explained.
Bektumuratova also pointed out the lack of information about the incident on the enterprise's social media. "Why didn't you express condolences? Citizens were asking questions about the silence of Vice Mayor Aliyev," she added.
"I didn't want to draw attention to this, as the husband, son, and daughter of the deceased also work at 'Tazalyk.' This has become widely discussed due to the video published by UPSM," Chushtukov clarified.
Vice Mayor Ramiz Aliyev added that this situation is very delicate, and such tragedies should not be used for publicity. "Many may get the impression that this is an attempt at PR. We, together with the team, provided assistance and attended the funeral. I urge the deputies to also support the family," he concluded.
