At a recent meeting of the permanent commission of Bishkek, which deals with issues of housing and communal services, ecology, and transport, one of the deputies raised the topic of separate waste collection.

In his opinion, recycling "useful" waste, including plastic, paper, and glass, can bring significant benefits.

The vice-mayor of the capital, Ramiz Aliyev, agreed with this viewpoint, noting that this initiative has potential.

“Our plans include creating 20 waste sorting points (WSP) by the end of this year. One such point, located at the Orto-Sai market, is already showing positive results. However, it is important to understand how ready our society is for waste sorting. Previously, we tried to implement a garbage collection schedule after 6:00 PM to simplify the work of 'Tazalyk,' as the number of trips increases at night due to the lack of traffic jams. However, this idea did not find support among the population. Therefore, we are considering the creation of WSPs. For the city to function effectively, at least 100 such points will be required. People will continue to take out garbage in bags, and 'Tazalyk' employees will sort it and send it to the landfill,” he explained.

In addition to this, the vice-mayor reported that a new waste incineration plant in Bishkek is already operational. The launch of another plant is scheduled for January, and the equipment for it will be supplied from Minsk (Belarus). The new facility plans to produce pipes, manholes, and irrigation channels from plastic, which will also require waste sorting,” he added.
