This digitization was carried out as part of a project to preserve the Kyrgyz film archive.
The film, released in 1986, tells the story of the construction of the Toktogul Hydroelectric Power Station — the largest power plant in Kyrgyzstan. The plot centers around an engineer who faces a difficult choice: to fulfill the state plan or to save people suffering from a lack of water due to the filling of the reservoir. Against the backdrop of harsh landscapes and the concrete structures of the dam, the director creates not just a chronicle of construction but a profound moral drama in which the characters strive to maintain their humanity in a system where "a catastrophe is not allowed."
Algimantas Vidugiris is a People's Artist of Kyrgyzstan, an academician of the National Academy of Cinema Arts, as well as an experienced film director, screenwriter, and cinematographer. His contributions have been recognized with awards, including a certificate from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR in 1968 and the title of "Honored Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR" in 1974. In 2006, he was awarded the "Dank" medal for his outstanding contribution to Kyrgyz cinema.
Vidugiris's films, such as "Factory Meetings," "Turning to the Sun," "PSP," "Castles on Sand," "Watch," "Overlapping," "This Is Not a Misfortune," "The Glasses Man," "Naryn Diary," "In the Year of the Restless Sun," "Men Without Women," and others, form the golden fund of Kyrgyz cinema. His filmography includes a total of 20 documentary, short, and feature films.
A key achievement of Vidugiris has been the creation of a unique film chronicle dedicated to the construction of a cascade of hydropower stations on the Naryn River, including his flagship — the Toktogul Hydroelectric Power Station.
