In Shymkent (Kazakhstan), the sixth smart toilet has opened, which, thanks to its glass construction, uses QR code and Face ID technologies for access. Upon entering the booth, the walls automatically become frosted, ensuring complete privacy.

This project was implemented in collaboration with the "Miras" University and the akimat. The main idea of the authors is to break the stereotype that public toilets are dirty and unsanitary.

Every detail inside the smart toilet is carefully thought out: cleanliness is maintained, there is underfloor heating, an air purifier, an air conditioner for hot weather, toilet paper, and a touchless water dispensing system. Additionally, there is a separate area for handwashing, refreshing, or changing diapers for children.

According to the university rector Nurken Khalykbergen, "the user can see in advance whether the booth is occupied or not, which also helps prevent vandalism, as the system records who used the toilet and when. The transparent walls before the entrance increase the level of safety, as it is immediately clear that no one is inside."

The akimat emphasized that not a single tenge from the budget was spent on the installation of the toilets — all costs were covered by sponsors. By the end of the year, it is planned to install another 40 such smart booths in Shymkent.

The story of "transparent toilets" began in 2020 in the Shibuya district of Tokyo, created by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, a laureate of the Pritzker Prize, which is considered the "Nobel Prize in Architecture."

Thus, the futuristic concept of the Japanese is successfully finding its application in Central Asia.

In this regard, the question arises: why not implement such toilets in Bishkek as well? City authorities have repeatedly raised the issue of the need to improve the condition of public restrooms. If the Shymkent experience proves successful, perhaps it is time to take a step towards "smart" toilets in our capital, as cleanliness and comfort are important aspects of a modern city.
