The Kyrgyz-Chinese Earth Observation Center and Digital Earth Opened at the Academy of Sciences -
The "Earth Observation and Digital Earth Center" has been established at the Institute of Physical and Technical Problems and Materials Science of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the main goal of creating and maintaining a state archive of aerospace images and extracted information through systematic and integrated data banks with standardization and a unified platform ("Digital Kyrgyzstan").
This Center has positive experience in mutual cooperation with the Remote Sensing Center and "Digital Earth" of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Within the framework of 4 signed agreements:
- Access to real-time satellite images from RADI of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has been obtained using the SatSee software developed at RADI;
- Powerful image processing software systems such as ArcGIS, ENVI, ERMap, and others have been installed;
- An agreement has been reached to create a joint Kyrgyz-Chinese Center for Processing Aerospace Data.
At a meeting with a delegation of Chinese scientists led by Academician GUO Huadong, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Academician Abdygani Erkebayev noted that this center could eventually become a Regional Center for the Joint Use of Earth Observation Data for Central Asian countries. Joint research by Kyrgyz and Chinese scientists will be concentrated here, and scientists from other countries may also be involved. A regional training center for space technologies could be created to expand access to Earth remote sensing data from Chinese satellites. This will allow for the revival of the ideas of the Great Silk Road based on the latest technologies.
