According to local residents, during an excursion through the coniferous forest in the Ala-Archa Gorge, they managed to find a skull that amazed them with its size. "We were surprised to find that the upper jaw of the skull had not two, as usual, but four canines — two pairs, with one pair being larger than the other. We even started joking that it could be some kind of 'chupacabra'," they share their impressions.
Ecologist Alexander Sosnovsky explained that this skull belongs to a rather large wolf. "This can be determined by the anatomical features of the wolf's jaw. The canines of wolves differ from those of dogs, as when the jaws close, they create a cutting effect similar to scissors: living flesh is not pierced but sliced. This is why wolf bites are dangerous — powerful jaws can inflict serious damage on the victim," he comments.
