The opening ceremony was attended by Renée Zellweger, who played the role of Bridget Jones in the films. The actress described the statue as "charming" and added that it looks much cuter than Renée herself.
Also present at the event was Helen Fielding, the author of the Bridget Jones series. When asked about the possibility of continuing the story, the writer replied, "Never say never. As a writer, you wait for stories to come to you, and if one of them turns out to be interesting and fresh, I will write it."
