A draft resolution of the Bishkek City Council concerning the renaming of streets in the capital has been put up for public discussion.
The main goal of this document is to create legal mechanisms aimed at eliminating duplicate and fragmented street names, as well as simplifying the city's address system.
The city administration notes that over the years, the same street has often been assigned different names, leading to multiple designations for the same sections.

As a result of the administrative-territorial reform, rural districts and settlements with already existing streets were annexed to Bishkek. Following this, some of them were given extensions with new names.
“This situation has created serious problems for navigation and orientation in the city, as well as complicated the work of municipal and emergency services, making it difficult to register real estate. For example, the same street can have different names: Frunze Street (in the Novopavlovka area), and the avenues of Deng Xiaoping, Chuy, and Shabdan Baatyr. To streamline this, it is proposed to unify these streets under the single name Chuy Avenue, while retaining the names of Deng Xiaoping and Shabdan Baatyr by renaming other streets,” the justification for the project states.
Within the framework of the proposed resolution, the following changes are planned:
- renaming Frunze Street (in the Novopavlovka area), and the avenues of Deng Xiaoping, Chuy, and Shabdan Baatyr to Chuy Avenue;
- changing the names of April 7 Street and Kurmandzhan Datka Street to Kurmandzhan Datka Street;
- renaming Jayyl Baatyr Street, the avenues of Absamat Masaliev, Aaly Tokombaev, and Kayykov Street to Aaly Tokombaev Avenue;
- renaming Anvarbek Chortekov Street and Krivonosov Street to Absamat Masaliev Street;
- changing the names of Leo Tolstoy Street, Puteprovodnaya Street, and Sary Özön Street to Shabdan Baatyr Street;
- renaming Chingiz Aitmatov Avenue and Manas Street to Chingiz Aitmatov Avenue;
- changing the names of Young Guard Avenue and Mahatma Gandhi Street to Imanalay Aydarbekov Street;
- renaming Selection Street and Muromskaya Street to Mahatma Gandhi Street;
- changing the names of Julius Fuchik Street and Vasilievsky Tract to Manas Street;
- renaming the avenues of Jibek Jolu and Victory to Jibek Jolu Avenue;
- changing the names of Maxim Gorky Street and Ankara Street to Ankara Street;
- renaming Chalagyz Imankulov Street and Karybek Tynaliev Street to Karybek Tynaliev Street;
- changing the names of Baytik Baatyr Street, Jusu Abdrakhmanov Street, Abdynasyr Elebesov Street, and Central Street to Jusu Abdrakhmanov Street;
- renaming Beregovaya Street, Okrainaya Street, Kok-Sai Street, Kurmanaliyev Street, Naberezhnaya Street, and Beregovaya Street to Deng Xiaoping Street;
- changing the names of Iskhak Razzakov Street (in the Novopavlovka area) and Asipa Temirova Street to Anvarbek Chortekov Street;
- renaming Vinogradnaya Street to Leo Tolstoy Street;
- changing the name of Nikolai Gogol Street (in the Novopavlovka area) to Chalagyz Imankulov Street;
- renaming Leninskaya Street and Yubileynaya Street to Jayyl Baatyr Street.
It is expected that the implementation of this project will lead to additional expenses from the local budget, although the exact amount is not specified in the justification.
