“Turdakun Usubaliev highly valued the preservation of historical memory regarding the names of streets and settlements”
The family of the Hero of Kyrgyzstan, Turdakun Usubaliev, has protested against the proposal to rename the village of Kochkor. This information was announced by Usubaliev's grandson, Esen.
“The idea proposed by the elders of the district is aimed at immortalizing the memory of Turdakun Usubaliev. We have repeatedly emphasized his significance in preserving the historical memory of the names of streets and settlements in Kyrgyzstan. These names form the unique historical appearance of the country, have historical value, and influence the cultural and geographical perception of districts and villages,” he noted.
In their opinion, changing the name of the village of Kochkor affects the historical memory of the place where Turdakun Usubaliev was born and raised, which could erase his importance for both the district and the entire country. Furthermore, the name Kochkor has an ancient history and special significance for its residents. Renaming could negatively impact the perception of the historical memory of the Hero of the Kyrgyz Republic, Turdakun Usubaliev.
“We urge the elders of the Kochkor district to reconsider this initiative to avoid mistakes that could significantly affect the unique historical appearance of the district,” added Esen Usubaliev.
It is worth noting that earlier, at a meeting with the district akim, the elders raised the issue of naming the village of Kochkor after Turdakun Usubaliev, after which active discussions arose in society regarding the need for renaming.
