Headwear of Kyrgyz Men in the 18th-20th Centuries

The National Archaeological Museum Complex "Sulaiman-Too" houses a collection of men's headgear of the Kyrgyz people. This was reported by the museum team in an interview with a Turmush correspondent.

As the staff clarified, all the presented headgear dates back to the 18th-20th centuries.

"Men from families with limited financial means used these headpieces in their daily lives. The headgear of the bai-manaps had their own unique features in design and materials. We regularly conduct restoration to preserve them in their original condition," the museum workers added.

The museum's exhibition features the following models of headgear:

the чоң калпак, which was donated to the museum in 1968;

the kalpak for young men, received from the Uzgen district in 1982;

the togolok telpek, obtained in 1968 from the Nooken district;

the tebetey selde, which came in 1991 from Papana;

the tebetey telpek, which was donated to the museum in 1978.
