The digital version of the documentary film "Naryn Diary," created by "Kyrgyzfilm," is now available for viewers. The film, which reflects the life of the Naryn region and major construction projects of the 1970s, has been digitized.
This documentary, filmed over 50 years ago by director Algimantas Vidugiris, who became one of the leading masters of Soviet documentary filmmaking, was created in the early 1970s. Today, it is considered an important element of Kyrgyzstan's cultural and historical heritage.
The plot of the film focuses on the journey of the film crew along the Naryn River on a homemade raft. In the film, viewers can see the everyday life of the residents of the Naryn region, including shepherds, archaeologists, power line builders, and schoolchildren from remote villages.
Special attention is given to the construction of the Toktogul Hydroelectric Station, which at that time was one of the largest Komsomol construction projects. The film reflects the large-scale socio-economic changes and the atmosphere of the 1970s through the fates of individual people.
The digitization of "Naryn Diary" is part of an initiative to preserve archival film materials and return Kyrgyz cinema to the contemporary cultural field. The updated version of the film will help preserve valuable documentary footage and make it accessible to a wider audience.
The premiere of the digitized version of the film is scheduled for December 20, 2025.
