The film is dedicated to the memory of Algimantas Vidugiris, one of the creators of the "Kyrgyz miracle." In the 1960s, new talents emerged at the film studio of the Kyrgyz SSR, gaining international recognition for the quality of their films. Among them was a Lithuanian who, after studying at VGIK, came to Kyrgyzstan, fell in love with it, and became a part of its culture, for which his colleagues began to call him Vidukyrgyz. Tynai Ibragimov, who was a student of Vidugiris, began his film career in 1977, working as a camera assistant on the film "Report on a Legend," dedicated to the search for the sunken city in Lake Issyk-Kul. Now he is a People's Artist of Kyrgyzstan and a well-known film director, and this film is a tribute to his Teacher.
Roza Tabaldieva, the main character of the film, was not only Algimantas's wife but also an actress who worked with masters such as Konchalovsky and Shepitko. Later, she chose a medical career and became a well-known doctor, rising from psychiatrist to chief physician of the Republican Psychoneurological Dispensary. In the documentary, she shares memories of her acquaintance with the director, their life together, and his creative work.
The film highlights not only personal aspects but also the significance of Vidugiris as a specialist who was a film chronicler during the construction of the Naryn Cascade of Hydroelectric Power Stations, including the Toktogul HPP - a symbol of Kyrgyz energy. The builders awarded him the title of "Honorary Builder No. 1," which he was even prouder of than his awards at film festivals. This became pivotal for him, as before entering VGIK, he studied hydraulic engineering at Kaunas University of Technology.
The documentary "Algimantas Vidukyrgyz - Confession of a Film Director's Wife" includes unique archival materials and excerpts from Vidugiris's outstanding works, which have become classics of Kyrgyz cinema. It also features memories from his colleagues and students, such as Manas Musaev, Aktan Arym Kubat, and Karidin Akmataliev.
This film is a confession of love, memory, and devotion, telling the stories of people who dedicated their lives to art, science, and their country.
