Recently, a meeting of experts took place in Bishkek, where representatives of government bodies, international organizations, business, and the research community gathered. The main topic of discussion was the future of Kyrgyzstan's pension system, as reported by the Social Fund.

According to the fund, the current pension system, responsible for ensuring a decent standard of living for citizens, has become the subject of an open and constructive dialogue on how to improve its fairness, reliability, and sustainability.

During the meeting, it was noted that significant results have been achieved in recent years: an increase in pension amounts, improved administration, a transition to digital technologies, and a reduction of the burden on citizens—all contributing to a higher level of stability for people.

The accumulative part of the pension system has not only made it more attractive but has also positively impacted the construction market and supported insured individuals during periods of unemployment and illness, as emphasized by participants from the Social Fund.

Furthermore, it was announced that in 2025, 110.9 billion soms are planned to be allocated for pension payments, and the average pension amount has already reached 11,300 soms. Over the past few years, pension amounts have significantly increased, with about 60 billion soms directed towards their increase in just the last four years.
However, meeting participants emphasized that the pension system faces serious challenges, including demographic changes, informal employment, migration, and insufficient coverage of the agricultural sector and self-employed individuals. These circumstances require a constant and thoughtful approach to problem-solving.

In light of the above, it is necessary to develop and implement a new strategy for the development of the pension system by 2040, which will outline key directions and methods for improving the system. The Social Fund added that work in this direction continues, and subsequent stages of reform will focus on addressing these important tasks.
