A solemn ceremony for lighting the New Year tree took place in Bishkek, attended by the city's mayor Aibek Junushaliev and the deputy chairman of the city council Zhyldyzbek Abdrayimov. Before the event began, a theatrical performance featuring an impressive fire show and fireworks was organized on stage at the Manas monument.
Despite the frost, the central square of the capital was filled with residents and guests. The mayor also shared the achievements of the city authorities, discussing the development and transformation of Bishkek.
“Lighting the tree symbolizes the importance of creating a cozy and bright space in the heart of our country. This holiday unites people of all ages and inspires us to care for our city,” noted the mayor.
Junushaliev added that the authorities continue to implement city projects, focusing on safety and comfortable living conditions. He expressed hope that 2026, which will be the Year of the Fire Horse, will bring new opportunities and bold solutions aimed at the well-being of its residents.
To the countdown of those present, officials initiated the lighting of the 35-meter tall New Year tree, which prompted enthusiastic applause from the audience.
The opening of the concert program began with the performance of the song "Bishkegim," which has become the anthem of the capital, performed by the folk ensemble "Semetey." A special moment of the evening was the performance by Nasiyat Baymyrzaeva, a girl from a boarding school for the blind and visually impaired, who, despite an upcoming complicated eye surgery, came to congratulate the residents on the upcoming New Year.
“We came to see our tree and wish all Kyrgyzstanis peace, happiness, and prosperity in the new year,” shared her impressions city resident Oksana.
Student Elzat noted that she had no pre-New Year mood until she came to the square. Seeing the joyful faces of those around her made her feel significantly happier.
Additionally, the mayor added that an exciting show program is planned for Bishkek residents and guests of the capital on New Year's Eve.
