Every culture has its unique customs. A correspondent from Turmush explored how the "kız uzatuu" ceremony is conducted among the Dungans living in the village of Irdyk in the Jet-Oguz district.

Local residents emphasize that the process of sending off the bride requires special attention and respect.

“The bride's parents take care of all the rituals and the preparation of the dowry. The groom dresses the bride in red. In total, four pairs of clothing, shoes, and dresses need to be prepared. Many treats are prepared in the homes, among which Shchi stands out — a traditional Dungan wedding dish made of meat, vegetables, bread, and rice. The color red symbolizes celebration for the Dungans. The bride's clothing is adorned with bells so that every step she takes while doing housework or cooking can be heard. This tradition was once the first sign of the bride's arrival, although it has been forgotten over time,” share the locals.

Librarian Gulnara Mafkuyeva and paramedic Marina Jazieva spoke about the cost of the kalyn in the village of Irdyk.

“The price of kalyn starts from 50,000 soms, but in other regions, it can reach up to 3,000 dollars. The bride's parents furnish their daughter's new home with furniture and appliances. The day after the wedding, the bride appears in a new outfit before her husband's relatives.

After giving birth, the bride is not sent back to her parental home for 40 days. She stays with her husband but does not go outside during this time, and outsiders should not see her,” they add.

Villagers also note that the Dungans are a hardworking people.
