At a joint meeting of six committees of the Jogorku Kenesh on December 23, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev expressed dissatisfaction with the introduction of fines for absences in universities, emphasizing that such measures create an unjustified division among students.

He reported that recently the cost of contracts in educational institutions has significantly increased, and now universities are trying to earn extra money from students by imposing new fines.

“For one ‘nb’, a student must pay 1,000 soms if they did not attend classes due to illness. This situation is observed at the International Medical Institute and other colleges. This needs to be canceled. In the education system, it is unacceptable to divide students into rich and poor,” Bekeshev noted.

The response to the criticism was provided by Aibek Chotonov, the First Deputy Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations, who promised that the ministry would review the issue of fines and report the results later.
