At the age of 86, literary scholar and honored cultural figure Omor Sooronov has passed away.

On January 21, after long suffering, Omor Sooronov, a distinguished cultural figure of Kyrgyzstan and a renowned literary scholar, passed away at the age of 86, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture.

Omor Sooronov, a poet, writer, and literary critic, was a member of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan. He boasted numerous awards, including the State Prize of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of science and technology and the Order of "Manas" III degree, as well as the title of honorary professor at the National University named after Jusup Balasagyn.

Sooronov was born on February 28, 1940, in the village of Gölögön in the Bazar-Korgon district. In 1958, he graduated from secondary school No. 1 in Bazar-Korgon. In 1967, after graduating with honors from the philological faculty of Kyrgyz State University, he was appointed a teacher at the A. S. Pushkin Jalal-Abad Pedagogical College. From 1969, he worked as a junior researcher in the "Manas" sector at the Institute of Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, and later held various positions in the Soviet literature sector and the manuscript department of this institute.

From 1979 to 1981, Sooronov headed the fiction editorial office at the "Kyrgyzstan" publishing house, and from 1992 to 1995, he served as a senior lecturer at the I. Arabayev Kyrgyz State Pedagogical University and as a senior researcher at KNAU.

His first significant success in literature came with the poem "Alykul," for which he was awarded the first prize. Omor Sooronov's creative career began with poetry: his first poetry collection "Toolorumdun ziyaty" was published in 1971, and since then he has released eight collections, including "Eki togolok" (1993), which is dedicated to children and adolescents.

In addition to poetry, Sooronov actively engaged in literary criticism and literary studies, researching and publishing forgotten works of Kyrgyz poets, writers, and historians, translating their works from Arabic and Latin scripts into modern Kyrgyz. Among his significant publications are manuscripts such as "Majmu at-tavarikh" (late 15th century), "Sanat digarasttar" by Moldu Niyaz, "Kazaldar" by Moldu Kylch, and many others.

He also researched "Manas" by Togolok Moldo and prepared a monograph on the epic events in the "Manas trilogy." His achievements include the study of the works of M. Elebaev and the publication of the documentary story "Mukay."

Sooronov was one of the authors of the two-volume "History of Kyrgyz Soviet Literature" (1987, 1990) and the seven-volume "History of Kyrgyz Literature" (2004, 2005), as well as other significant works such as the "Anthology of Pedagogical Thought of the Kyrgyz SSR," published in Moscow in 1988.

He published over four hundred articles in newspapers, magazines, and encyclopedias. In 2009, his two-volume work "Word about Manuscripts" was published by "Turar" publishing house.

Among his awards are the title of "Honored Worker of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic," conferred in 1995 on the 60th anniversary of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan, as well as the State Prize in the field of science and technology in 2004. On June 5, 2017, he was awarded the Order of "Manas" III degree, and his name was included in the list of distinguished figures of public education of the Kyrgyz Republic and laureates of the literary prize named after Mukay Elebaev.
