Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, reported this at a meeting of the Ministry of Energy's board. He noted that the growth in electricity consumption against the backdrop of stable economic development creates problems with power shortages. The government emphasized that the pace of construction of new generation capacities is lagging behind the increase in demand.

According to government data, in recent years, modernization of the Toktogul, Uch-Kurgan, and At-Bashinsky hydropower plants has been carried out, and several small hydropower plants, such as Bala-Saruu, Kara-Kul, Kok-Art, and Kainama, have been commissioned. One of the factors affecting the energy system has been the reduction of water resources due to climate change.

The government also pointed out the necessity to form coal reserves in advance for the heating season and organize its distribution to ensure supply for the population and social institutions.

The meeting also discussed that the construction of solar and wind power plants is being carried out at a high level; however, their operation depends on weather conditions. In this regard, the Ministry of Energy was tasked with preparing calculations, balances, and reserve capacities in advance.

As a result of the meeting, the ministry was assigned to intensify work on the development of generation, integration of renewable energy sources, and ensuring reliable electricity and heat supply for the population and the economy of the country.
