Chyngyz Aitmatov's sister addressed the public

She discussed the events in Osh in the 90s, the writer's views on Islam, and the elections of Akayev

Roza Aitmatova, the sister of the famous Kyrgyz writer Chyngyz Aitmatov and a distinguished education worker in Kyrgyzstan, made a public statement in response to rumors and accusations that began to spread on social media and among the public.

In her address, Roza Aitmatova expressed concern over unfounded accusations and urged against using her brother's name in political disputes and conflicts.

She noted that claims suggesting that Chyngyz Aitmatov is responsible for the events in Osh in the 90s and holds a one-sided political position are baseless. Roza reminded that during that period, the writer was in Moscow, where he met with the President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, managing to secure a promise from him not to send troops into Kyrgyzstan, which helped prevent serious conflicts in Central Asia.

She also mentioned that the decision to support Askar Akayev's candidacy for the presidency was made by the deputies of the Supreme Council while Chyngyz Aitmatov was not in the country.

Regarding the Kyrgyz language, Roza explained that the writer began creating his works in his native language, as he was fluent in it. The translation into Russian occurred under pressure from Soviet authorities in the late 1950s, and it was the poet Alexander Tvardovsky who suggested he publish in the magazine "Novy Mir."

Roza Aitmatova reminded that their family always upheld religious traditions, and her brother respected Islam, performing the basic rituals and sincerely believing in God.

"It is important to maintain unity and not succumb to provocations. Rumors only incite discord. It is not worth either glorifying or vilifying him. May Chyngyz Aitmatov rest in peace," she emphasized.
