At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Agricultural Issues, Deputy Erkeaiym Seitkazieva raised the question of the possibility of opening a livestock market in the Issyk-Ata district.

She noted that the market in Tokmok was closed, after which a new market was opened in the Kemin district. "The distance to Kemin is 90 km from Issyk-Ata, and to Kara-Balta is also 90 km. That's quite far," the deputy added.

In response, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is also responsible for agriculture and water resources, noted that the decision to open markets is made at the local government level.

Bakyt Torobaev stated: "If sanitary conditions are met, then the market can be opened; this is not prohibited. Our task is to monitor compliance with the requirements. Why was the market in Tokmok closed? We issued an order and offered financial assistance to eliminate violations, but nothing was done in a year, so the market was closed."

According to Torobaev, there are currently 48 livestock markets in the country, and some of them do not meet the standards.

He added: "We will close such markets; I want to emphasize this."
