At a meeting of the permanent commission of the capital's kenesh on the issues of improving the newly annexed territories to Bishkek, Deputy Kazybek Ergeshov raised the question of the necessity of holding elections for quarter leaders and establishing their salaries.

He noted that the annexed districts have been functioning for the third year without quarter leaders. "There are previously elected representatives, but they work as activists without compensation. They are the backbone of the districts. Quarter leaders are the voice of the people; through them, information reaches the akimats, deputies, and MTU. The issue of elections and salaries should have been resolved last year. We cannot constantly rely on public activism," Ergeshov added.

City hall representatives reported that a scheme for the quarters is currently being developed. "After completing this work, we will hold elections and set salaries. The main thing right now is to finish the scheme," noted one of the officials.

Kazybek Ergeshov emphasized that deputies will soon be reviewing the local budget, and it is important to expedite this matter.

"Have you submitted a request for quarter leaders? If not, they will again remain without salaries. The districts may find themselves in a difficult situation. It is necessary to give instructions to include a project for elections and funding for quarter leaders in the budget," he concluded.
