At the 2026 Winter Olympics, medals are breaking

At the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, there have been instances where medals are breaking or detaching from their ribbons.

This issue was encountered by American athletes Bri Johnson and Alice Liu, who received gold medals. Johnson, who became the champion in women's downhill skiing, showcased her medal at a press conference, noting that the ribbon detached due to a damaged fastener. Alice Liu also reported a similar incident during the team figure skating tournament, posting a video on social media showing her medal disconnecting.

A similar situation occurred with the German biathlon team: one video captured a medal slipping off an athlete's ribbon during a celebration at the hotel.

The Olympic organizers confirmed that they are investigating the causes of the problem, despite the fact that the gold medals for the 2026 Games have the highest rating in history.
