In Karakol, located in the Issyk-Kul region, at 184 Karasaev Street, there stands an ancient traditional residential house, as reported by the Turmush mayor's office.

This house, situated in the center of old Karakol, where the streets are imbued with the atmosphere of bygone times, looks modest yet majestic thanks to its carved windows and massive brick walls.

According to the mayor's office, the address of this house is 184 Karasaev, but it conceals something more than just a building. It is a silent witness to history, built in the early 20th century when Karakol was just beginning its life as a military and trading center of the Russian Empire. There is an opinion that the house was erected by a merchant or an educated official who came with his family in search of comfort and new opportunities. The structure is characterized by its durability and reliability, high ceilings, and large windows through which the bright Tian Shan sun penetrates.

In the yard, poles for antennas have appeared, and a bulletin board has been placed in the corner. People came here not for tea, but to receive telegrams, summons, or letters from sons at the front. This house became the heart of the district, embodying Post Office No. 1, which connected Karakol to the outside world. Over time, as the war was left behind and peaceful decades arrived, the signs changed, but the walls remained the same. This old house became part of urban life, like a lantern on the corner or the wind in the mountains. It ceased to surprise passersby, but in silence, it continued to hold destinies: letters, conversations, and traces of time.

This object is an example of residential architecture from the late 19th to early 20th century, characteristic of small towns and rural settlements in Central Asia. The building combines elements of folk architecture and eclecticism: a symmetrical facade, stucco decorations, shutters, columns, and a carved cornice. It was built with consideration for local climatic conditions, using traditional building materials. This is a typical residential building of that period, representing historical value associated with the active development of residential construction in the region, demonstrating the everyday architecture of its time with high authenticity.

The building is listed in the register of architectural monuments of regional significance and has a protective zone within which new construction that could alter the historical appearance of the area is prohibited. Approval is also required for any repair and restoration work,” the official statement reports.

The current use of this building: Karakol branch of OJSC Kyrgyzpost.
