In March, the National Surgical Center named after Mambet Mamakeev will host the first liver transplant operation. This was announced by Bakytbek Kadyraliev, Deputy Minister of Health, at a meeting of the relevant committee of the Jogorku Kenesh.

According to him, the preparation for the operation is complete, and the necessary equipment has already been installed. The surgical procedure will be conducted with the participation of Russian specialists.

In response to questions from deputies, Kadyraliev noted that there are currently no accurate data on the number of patients in need of a liver transplant.

“At the moment, there is no single registry. We are working on creating a centralized database for liver and kidney transplants,” he specified.

The Deputy Minister also added that candidates for the operation are being considered among patients with hepatitis B and C. According to official information, last year there were 75 cases of hepatitis B, 56 cases of hepatitis C, and 9 cases of hepatitis D registered.

As of January 1, 2026, 578 citizens of Kyrgyzstan have already undergone liver transplantation.

The first successful liver transplant in the country was performed in June 2024, when the operation was carried out by a joint team of Kyrgyz and Turkish surgeons.
