Deputy Minister of Health Bakytbek Kadyraliev announced at a meeting of the relevant committee of the Jogorku Kenesh that the first liver transplant operation in Kyrgyzstan is scheduled for March of this year.

He noted that preparations for the operation have been completed at the National Surgical Center named after Mambet Mamakeev, including the setup of all necessary equipment, and that medical specialists from Russia will participate in the process.

In response to deputies' questions about the number of patients needing a liver transplant, Kadyraliev replied that there are currently no exact data.

“At the moment, there is no clear registry of patients, and we are just starting work on creating a unified database for liver and kidney transplants,” he added.

Kadyraliev also mentioned that patients with hepatitis B and C could become potential candidates for the operation in the future. According to official information, last year there were 75 cases of hepatitis B, 56 cases of hepatitis C, and 9 cases of hepatitis D registered.

According to statistics, as of January 1, 2026, 578 citizens of Kyrgyzstan have already undergone liver transplant surgery.

Liver transplantation is a complex high-tech procedure that involves replacing the affected organ with a donor liver (partially or completely). The operation may be necessary in cases of cirrhosis, acute liver failure, certain forms of cancer, and congenital diseases.

The duration of the operation varies from 6 to 12 hours and requires the participation of a team of highly qualified surgeons.

In major medical institutions, the annual survival rate after transplantation reaches 85–90 percent.
