In recent days, the topic of an acid cloud allegedly moving towards Kyrgyzstan and neighboring countries has been actively discussed on social media. Let's examine what this phenomenon is and how dangerous it is for our country.

On March 7, the Israeli Air Force conducted strikes on Iran's oil infrastructure, targeting oil storage facilities near a major oil refinery in the southern part of Tehran. As a result of the attacks, at least 30 oil tanks were destroyed, leading to the formation of a significant chemical cloud.

Asel Raimkulova, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, reported that the Hydrometeorological Service is monitoring the situation using its observation stations.

According to her, "The service has an automated station, and it is capable of monitoring."

The press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources Kaktus.media clarified that monitoring atmospheric changes falls within the competence of Kyrgyzhydromet. However, the service itself responded that this is not their area of responsibility.

“Kyrgyzhydromet does not conduct precipitation analyses. We are engaged in weather forecasting, so this issue does not fall under our duties,” the representatives of the service noted.

Experts interviewed by the editorial team stated that making any forecasts is premature at this point, as it is necessary to study the available data. Nevertheless, they are confident that the likelihood of acid clouds reaching our region is extremely low.

At the same time, the National Ecology Committee of Uzbekistan denied information about possible acid clouds from Iran that could cause rain in Central Asia. The agency emphasized that acid precipitation forms only with prolonged accumulation of sulfur and nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere, which usually occurs near large industrial areas and emission sources. As polluted air moves over long distances, its concentration decreases, making the formation of dangerous precipitation thousands of kilometers away from the source practically impossible.

According to meteorological observations and air quality monitoring, there is no evidence of acid clouds being transported to Uzbekistan and neighboring countries.
