According to Abdulata Kadyrov, the director of the National Center for Phthisiatry, certain groups of people are at risk of contracting tuberculosis. First and foremost, these are pregnant women and those in the postpartum period, as their bodies undergo hormonal changes. The specialist shared this information on the air of "Birinchi Radio".

Kadyrov also mentioned that a screening study was conducted in Bishkek, during which some patients in the postpartum period were found to have changes in their respiratory organs, and 3% of them were diagnosed with active tuberculosis.

The risk group includes people with weakened immune systems. This particularly includes those infected with HIV, patients with diabetes, individuals who have undergone organ transplants, and those taking hormonal medications. Additionally, this category includes people with chronic respiratory diseases.

The specialist noted that tuberculosis was previously considered a disease of the poor; however, it is now found among both low-income and affluent individuals, and no one can be completely protected from this disease.

Tuberculosis is transmitted through the air — during conversation, coughing, or sneezing, when mycobacteria enter the environment. It is important to note that the disease cannot be transmitted through household items such as dishes or towels, nor is it inherited. The main risk factor is prolonged and close contact with a person who has an open form of tuberculosis, Kadyrov emphasized.
