The Rubik's Cube is a mechanical puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and architecture professor Ernő Rubik. It consists of a cube made up of smaller colored cubes that can rotate around three internal axes of the puzzle. The player's task is to turn the segments in such a way that each face of the Rubik's Cube is a single color.

The first International Rubik's Cube speed-solving championship took place in 1982. People who are passionate about such competitions are called speedcubers, and the speed-solving itself is referred to as speedcubing. Today, the official record for solving the Rubik's Cube stands at 5.25 seconds, set by American teenager Collin Burns in 2015.
