
Denis Petrashov won a silver medal at the international Pro Swim Series tournament held in Austin, Texas, USA.
The swimming competitions in the 100 meters breaststroke took place on January 14 and 15. In the preliminary heats, the athlete from Kyrgyzstan recorded the second-best time, which allowed him to confidently advance to the finals. In the decisive heat, which took place early on the morning of January 15, Petrashov finished with a time of 59.55 seconds, earning him 2nd place and the silver medal.
The first position was taken by American Matthias Van, who recorded a time of 59.45 seconds.
The Pro Swim Series stage in Austin gathered many of the world's top swimmers and is considered an important step in preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games. The tournament features Olympic champions from the USA, as well as the main team from France led by Léon Marchand. Kazakhstan sent nine of its swimmers to participate in the competitions and training in the USA.
Additionally, Denis Petrashov plans to compete in the 50 and 200 meters breaststroke events as part of the tournament.
According to the coaches of the Kyrgyzstan national team, participation in such international competitions is critically important for the growth of athletes' training levels. The state agency for physical culture and sports promises support for the continuation of training in the USA.
