The Olympic Games - 2026 are taking place from February 6 to 22. On this day, medals were contested in cross-country skiing, biathlon, alpine skiing, ski jumping, skeleton, speed skating, short track, and freestyle.
Swedish Drama and Norwegian Victory
The women's ski relay at the Val di Fiemme course became one of the most intense races of the day.The key moment occurred during the second leg when Swedish athlete Ebba Andersson fell on a difficult section of the course, nearly flipping over. Although she did not sustain serious injuries, she had to break her ski.
Andersson covered several dozen meters, pushing with one leg, before she was able to receive a new ski from her coaches. During this time, her competitors significantly increased their lead.
As a result, Ebba finished her leg in eighth place, trailing the leaders by 78 seconds. Nevertheless, the Swedish team managed to recover and secure a spot in the top three. Ultimately, the Norwegian team claimed victory, while the Finnish athletes took silver.
Historic Victory for Braathen
In alpine skiing, Lukas Braathen became the Olympic champion in the giant slalom, winning Brazil's first medal at the Winter Olympics.Thus, he became the first not only for his country but for all of Latin America to stand on the Olympic podium in winter competitions.
It is worth noting that Kyrgyz athlete Timur Shakirov also participated in this discipline, finishing in 62nd place.
Successes in Other Disciplines
In the men's ski jumping competition, Slovenian Domen Prevc won gold. After finishing second in the first attempt, he achieved the best result in the second jump and became the gold medalist.In the women's biathlon sprint, Norwegian Maren Kirkelaide took first place, marking her second victory in international tournaments. Silver went to French athlete Oceane Michalon, who won her first Olympic medal, while bronze was claimed by Lou Jeanmonnot, who now has a complete set of medals at these Games.
In speed skating, American Jordan Stoltz won the 500-meter distance, setting a new Olympic record. He had previously won gold in the 1,000-meter distance.
In short track, Dutch athlete Jens van 't Wout, after winning the 1,000-meter distance, also won the 1,500-meter race.
In freestyle, Australian Jakara Anthony became the champion in dual mogul, while Austrian Janine Flock won in skeleton.
